|
|
In the February issue of Archives of Otolaryngology, a small study showed that allergy sufferers were just as satisfied with the over-the-counter medication just as much as they were with a prescription drug.
The decongestant that you can purchase at your local drug store is called pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, and the prescription medication is called montelukast sodium. Some of the over-the-counter brand names that contain pseudoephedrine are Afrin, Cenafed, Decofed, Dorcol, Efidac/24, Pediacare, Sinutab, and Sudafed. The brand name prescription drug containing montelukast is Singulair.

| Interesting. While Singulair might not be better at controlling sinus problems related to allergies, it is much better at controlling respiratory symptoms. The study did not address that. |

Allergy Response Caused By Lack of Custom T-Cells – Treg Regulatory Cell Responsible For Remembering Allergens
(Best Syndication News) Researchers say that custom T cells are responsible for immune response (see the videos below). These specialized T-cells are programmed to remember foods, chemicals and other substances. Some of these substances are “remembered” as harmless and allowed to pass.
Scientists in New York have identified a class of these immune cells that block allergic reactions. Things can go awry when these T-cells are not created to specific substances and the lack of them may trigger an allergic response. These regulatory cells received their instructions and are created by a gene called Foxp3. Whenever we eat or inhale anything for the first time, a memory is created of that substance.

|
|
1. Do not drive or use machinery when you first take antihistamines. Drowsiness is a major problem for allergy sufferers. This impacts not only the driving or operating machinery abilities, but for those who are at work or in school it is hard to keep or stay awake, impacting overall productivity. Effects of sedating antihistamines like Benadryl or Chlor-Trimeton have been compared to effects that alcohols have when driving a car.
2. If you are taking prescription medications, check with your doctor first before taking over-the-counter medications. There may be some reactions between your OTC antihistamines and prescription drugs that may cause reactions thereby causing more problems for you.
3. Take only the right amount of dosage and at the right intervals. Even if the medication your taking is OTC, doesn't mean you will abuse it.
4. If the medication is not working, call your doctor for a prescription. Do not use more than the allowed number of days. If symptoms persist, there may be other issues that need to be addressed.
5. Do not take more than one type of OTC medication just because the other one doesn't work; in other words, avoid mixing with other OTC medications. They may have negative interactions with each other that you may not be aware of. Talk to your doctor and ask for advice. _________________ weight loss |
