Why The U.S. Should Help Illegal Mexican Immigrants - Immigration
May 8th 2006

US Mexico Border Fence

I am Christian, Conservative, and Republican. Having said that, let me say that we are committing a great injustice in how we are dealing with Mexican immigration and the status of illegal Mexican workers in the United States.

Congress and the American people ought to support President Bush’s guest-worker program for illegal Mexican workers in the United States. We do owe something to Mexico and its people.

In the 19th century our nation, which was experiencing great industrial, technological and economic growth, sought to expand to the Pacific Ocean. But, there was one big problem. Mexico was in the way. Western land belonged to Mexico.

It would probably behoove you to study a little more in-depth the machinations of the Mexican-American War before you blithely spout the latest Aztlan talking points.

Even if America DID steal the land, which would make the $15 MILLION pricetag irrelevent, how are today's citizens supposed to be held responsible for transgressions taking place 100+ years before their very birth? My family did not get to these shores until 1880 (Legally, I might add) so not even my BLOODLINE is guilty. Why should I or my children have to PAY for something we didn't even do?

I hope you noticed that last question. Sounds kinda like the 'anchor baby' lament, doesn't it? What's good for the goose, they say....

We can partly correct the great injustice and wrong which we committed against Mexico by giving legal status to Mexican workers, many of whom are doing jobs Americans refuse to do. Most of the illegal Mexican workers are hard working and are already paying taxes from money withdrawn from their paychecks. They have already contributed billions to the U.S. economy and into social security. Only a small percentage of the total illegals are in jail or on welfare...

I disagree.

If we make illegals, legal, it does not mitigate whatever (you) perceive of the injustice of Manifest Destiny. IN fact, can it not be argued that for this government (which they would arguably consider interlopers or pretenders) to condescend to now offer citizenship to Mexicans, in particular, would be an insult?

If you perceive we perpetrated a "great injustice and wrong" against Mexico, then the only potential mitigation of that great injustice is to give the land back: Make California, AZ, and most of Texas and New Mexico back into Mexican states.

But I would ask, by what protocol or sentiment do you, now, exact a price for an act committed over a hundred years ago?

Rightly or wrongly, the United States waged war on Mexico. Argue the merits of war all you want, but the simple fact is, the U.S. won. To the victor goes the spoils, and all that. OR, if you think reparation is the way to go, how about that $15 million price tag Guy was talking about? Seems to me that, back in the day, $15 million would make a pretty good reparation.

This is a ridiculous concept. Why not carry it further and give the U.S. back to England? Should India be given back to the English, Portuguese Dutch or the French?

Why don’t we give it all of the Americas back to the Indians? Why not give Mexico to the French or Spain? Ask them. They’re not Mexicans, they’re all “Spaniards”. By the way, the Mexicans are still killing their native Indians in the south of Mexico.

Tell you what: How about we start deporting all of the other illegal immigrants that we haven’t invaded: El Salvador, Honduras, Columbia, Cuba, Nicaragua, China and the rest of the world.

Good points, Mill. Very well stated.

Thank you for your clarity of thought and simplicity of expression.

Yeah !!!! Then we'll give US National Health Care and the US can let our riot cops get some practice in on your gangs to get them ready for the World Cup mob riots.

Laughing (j/k)

Seriously though....it wasnt just 15 million there was another 10 million paid to someone else shortly before the 'final agreement'. How much would that be worth now. Obvioulsy I agree with the other posts here, either sell it all back (with interest of course), maybe make Mexico a US State, I mean why not??? it seems that there are enough of the population there that want to be Americans.....or do something constructive with the immigration laws already in place, theyre treated as a joke. I think that tensions will get worse and the US could end up like the UK just has where a racist political party is actually gaining seats, not because the people voting are racitst but because that party is the only one'trusted' to do something about the illegal immigration issues.

Irimi is a method of entering an attack. The best way to understand irimi is to know that it is a method of entering an attack for the best advantage.
In typical Irimi, we approach the attacker more directly by approaching his front, or rather to his inside. Primarily, we slide at an angle towards the assailant. This angle can vary depending upon the technique we are performing and other small variables. Basically, we can vary the irimi positioning to fit the need at hand. Sometimes we need to slide in deeply, or drop our body lower when we enter, etc. In nearly all cases, it is practiced as a single movement before the execution of the actual technique (such as Shihonage or Sokumen - Iriminage). The work involved in the irimi entrance is getting your best positioning during the attack. This is not easy.

It appears that some history has been severely distorted as to how we got Texas, AZ, etc. First off, much/most came as a result of the Louisiana Purchase. We traded Texas for Florida. We tried to buy back Texas later, but Mexico would not sell. During this time, Mexico was in constant turmoil and even open warfare, and Texas seceded and declared themselves independent. They requested the US to annex them, we did so, and after 9 years as Republic of Texas, Mexico declared war on the US, and attacked across the border. Congress declared we were in a state of war, we defeated Mexico, we forgave some of the serious debt they owed us, paid them $15million , they ceded most of the SW plus California to the US. A few years later, as a result of constant border conflicts and arguments, we Paid them another $10 million for a small piece of land in what is now Southern AZ and a piece of New Mexico. So, basically, they declared war, lost, and we gained back what we originally had in the first place.

President Bush Speech – Full Text – Libertarians and Authoritarians Disagree Illegal Immigration – National Guard Troops and ID Card

President Bush

The President’s speech last night appeared to be an effort in appeasing conservatives that feel illegal immigration is out of control and needs to be stopped.  Of course there will be both Democrats and Republicans that will attack the President for his strategy.  Already some groups are saying that his plan may lead to amnesty for those already in the country, while the President denies this. President Bush Speech – Full Text – Libertarians and Authoritarians Disagree Illegal Immigration – National Guard Troops and ID Card

One of the more controversial measures put forth last night was the use of National Guard soldiers in aiding Border Patrol agents.  Another very controversial issue was the plan to issue national identification cards for every legal foreign worker.  Libertarians will have a heyday with these proposals, while authoritarians have no problem at all.

The plan is to deploy 6,000 National Guard troops along the border until more Border Patrol agents can be trained.  The plan is to place 9,000 to 12,000 new agents on the border.

It didn't work.

In a strictly supporting role, unable to stop the first illegal alien that crosses into the US. They'll build a few miles of fence and call the BP if they SEE anything, they just won't be allowed to DO anything. Hell, they're not even going to be ARMED!

It is a good thing they are not going to be armed. Last time we armed soldiers on the border, people got shot.

It just seems like a lot of people hate immigrants.
