I think hybrids make a lot of sense for people that have long drives, especially. Gas prices are going way up. I used to fill the van for 45 bucks. Now I put in 70. I don't drive it as much.
Also, the tax break makes it the year to buy a hybrid. There is a tax credit this year, on a limited number of cars. Each manufacturer has a limited number of credits to offer. Toyota will run out first, probably by mid year.
Hybrid cost more, but if you add in the tax CREDIT (not just a deduction), and the money you will save on every mile you drive the car... it may be worth it. That is if you have the spare change. |

Consumer Reports admitted they were wrong in their recent Automotive issue which was just released. Consumer Reports magazine said that hybrid cars were not that good of a deal and later admitted that 2 of the models were ok. It got me thinking of the calculations that they did not consider when they reviewed the hybrid automobiles.
One consideration is that the gas prices may still skyrocket. This factor is very real. There is a great amount of instability in the Middle East that threatens the cost of gas. Iran is threatening to block routes that deliver the oil which could add an extra expense. In a five year period we may see outrageous gas prices. This could become real savings.

(Best Syndication) Senators met with of U.S. based automakers executives Wednesday and were told to expect higher fuel standards. The auto industry has lobbying hard to avoid these added requirements claiming it will hurt them financially and could slow new car sales. The Senate is currently considering higher fuel mileage requirements for auto manufactures.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said "We need to have CAFE standards. Whether it's enough, we'll find out." Reid has said “Today, the nation consumes more than 21 million barrels of oil a day, and produces yearly emissions of approximately 6 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide.” His goal is to clean the environment while helping eliminate our dependence on foreign oil.

Harry Reid is a chocolate covered butt cookie ....another F****D up politician sticking his worthless nose into the business of where it dont belong.
He's probably getting kickbacks from Toyota to help put the hurt on the domestic automakers.
And then people bitch about why Americans are losing their jobs....thanks to fartknockers like Reid and his party cohorts, they are trying to speed up the process of every American going without a job. |

I thought this plan was in the works even before the Dems took over. We will see what happens. _________________ Bing News - The Best Place To Get Your News

Toyota Surpasses Ford Motor Company In US Sales For 2007 – General Motors May Be Largest Automaker in World – Waiting For Final Results for GM
(Best Syndication) Toyota sold more cars in the United States than Ford last year. Ford is the second largest US automaker behind General Motors (GM), and because of sluggish sales, the company fell behind Toyota in sales. It is still uncertain whether Toyota surpassed GM in worldwide sales for 2007.
Gas prices may have played a role. GM says that sales of their large sport-utility vehicles dropped 6 percent because of the high cost of gas. Nick Bunkley of the New York Times reports that sales were down for Ford, G.M., Toyota and Nissan while Honda sales were flat. Chrysler reported a 3 percent decline for 2007.
